The mission of the Florida National University Library is to support the curricular needs of the university. This includes the acquisition, organization, maintenance, and provision of timely access to library materials, in a variety of formats, which reflect current advances in academic and professional knowledge, as well as, information technology. As part of this mission, the library supports student and faculty research, the use of evolving information formats, and techniques which seek to encourage lifelong learning.

Authority is constructed and contextual
Information resources reflect their creators’ expertise and credibility, and are evaluated based on the information need and the context in which the information will be used. It is contextual in that the information need may help to determine the level of authority required.
Information creation is a process
Information in any format is produced to convey a message and is shared via a selected delivery method. The iterative processes of researching, creating, revising, and disseminating information various ways.
Information has value
Information possesses several dimensions of value, including as a commodity, as a means of education, as a means to influence, and as a means of negotiating and understanding the world. Legal and socioeconomic interests influence information production and dissemination.

Plagiarism Prevention. A paper that relies on research is a collaboration between someone and their sources. To be fair and ethical, everyone must acknowledge the writers/authors of those sources. By acknowledge the sources, someone avoids plagiarism, a serious academic offense.
Three different acts are considered plagiarism:
• failing to cite quotations and borrowed ideas
• failing to enclose borrowed language in quotation marks, and

Searching for information is often nonlinear and iterative, requiring the evaluation of a range of information sources and the mental flexibility to pursue alternate avenues as new understanding develops.
