Determine Your Contribution
When you apply for federal student aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information that you report (income, assets, number of family members, number in college, etc.) is applied to a formula established by the U.S. Congress. The formula calculates your family’s ability to pay for your educational expenses, and produces a figure that is referred to as your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Your financial need is the difference between your cost of attendance, as calculated by the institution, and your Expected Family Contribution. This calculation is often expressed as follows:
Cost of Attendance – Expected Family Contribution = Financial Need
What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid is money (scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study) provided by various agencies (federal, state, local governments, community organizations, and private corporations or individuals) to help students meet the cost of attending college. There are online resources called:

The cost of attendance (COA) at Florida National University consists of tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation and personal expenses. You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Department of Education will determine your expected family contribution (EFC), or the amount you and your parents/spouse will be expected to pay towards your estimated COA. Your financial need is defined as the difference between your COA and your EFC. The amounts and types of aid awarded to you will depend upon your level of need as determined by this calculation.
